The Camden New Journal and Islington Tribune are running a ‘London COP’ climate festival on December 9th at the London Irish Centre to run in parallel to COP28 in the United Arab Emirates.
While world leaders jet off to Dubai to mingle with fossil fuel lobbyists, Londoners can come together for a day of debate, sharing ideas on how to collectively hammer out a path to a greener future.
The final panel of the day, at 4pm, is devoted to the way artists, filmmakers and musicians are responding to the climate crisis. I will be showing a clip from one of our upcoming films. And, if that wasn’t reason enough to come along, you will also get to hear from rapper Louis VI, who is also on the panel.
During the course of the day the conference will hear from the economist Mariana Mazzucato, academic and journalist Anna Minton, social justice campaigner Kwajo Tweneboa and JSO founder Roger Hallam, among many others.
Free tickets and more information can be found here.
About The Film
A non-violent civil resistance group is demanding the UK government stop licensing new oil, gas and coal projects in the face of the climate emergency. The more they resist, the more the government clamps down on their right to protest and subjects them to arrests and harsh prison sentences. This film exposes the chilling effect of draconian laws being passed that affect the democratic rights of all British citizens. Are we at a tipping point of no return for our democratic rights as well as for the climate crisis?
